Treatment Preferences
As a therapist who aims to center you as a client, I utilize a person-centered approach. This counseling style aims to show you, the client, that you are in control. Our time together is built on empathy, unconditional positive regard and acceptance. You won’t catch me telling you about your life as YOU ARE the expert! The goals you set for our counseling session I will strive to ensure we reach. I use “we” as you are not alone and we will take anywhere between small steps to giant leaps to ensure we are working towards positive outcomes. With our teamwork also comes unwavering encouragement and accountability. I hold my end of our deal as the therapist to ensure the client is doing “the work” outside of our therapy sessions as well.
I integrate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused therapy (SFBT) and attachment theory and parts work into my therapy sessions as well. For couples, I utilized emotion-focused therapy (EFT) which addresses the negative loop and cycles that couples get into. I prefer this method of couples counseling as it addresses attachment issues of the couples versus behaviors (like many other styles). Negative behaviors within couples can quickly reverse after concluding counseling services, whereas focusing on attachment work has proven to have long term effects and higher success rates.
